I AM 2018: Moment of Silence
Thu, Feb 1, 2018 at 01:00 PM
In 1968, Memphis sanitation workers went on strike to demand fair wages and safe working conditions after workers Echol Cole and Robert Walker lost their lives on the job.
That spring, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. traveled to Memphis to join the strikers — members of AFSCME Local 1733 — where he gave his prophetic “Mountaintop” speech the day before he was killed.
On February 1, at 1PM Eastern Standard Time, a National Moment of Silence will take place with Labor & community leaders to honor the significance and legacy of the 1968 strike.
