LCLAA Marks Latina Equal Pay Day with a Twitter Storm

On Thursday, November 2, union members recognized Latina Equal Pay Day, the day when the average amount of money Latina women make catches up to the average wages white men made the year before. Latina women face the largest gender pay gap in the U.S., making only 54 cents for every dollar a white man makes, while black women make 63 cents for every white man’s dollar and white women make 79 cents for every white man’s dollar.

This year, the Labor Council for Latin American Advancement (LCLAA) hosted a Twitter Storm at 2 pm, and many unions participated in tweeting about Latina Equal Pay Day to raise awareness of the work that still needs to be done to close the pay gap and improve the lives of Latina working women. The LCLAA also noted that Latina women represented by unions make an average of $242 more a week than Latinas who are not in unions.
