Submissions Open for 2023 Bernhardt Labor Journalism Prize
The New York Labor History Association's Bernhardt Prize awards $1000 to an article that exemplifies great writing for a general audience and furthers the understanding of the history of working people. The prize and the forum honor the vision of the late Debra E. Bernhardt, who worked in so many different realms to share the hidden histories of working people.
Articles that put current issues like work, housing, organizing, health, or education in a historical context AND articles about historical events are both welcome. The work should be published in print or online between August 31, 2022 and August 30, 2023, and the deadline for submission is September 5, 2023. For more information or to enter, visit LaborArts.org/Bernhard. The winner will be announced at the Bernhardt Labor Journalism Forum at NYU's Bobst Library in early November, 2023.
This award is sponsored by the New York Labor History Association and NYU's Tamiment Library/Robert F. Wagner Labor Archives and co-sponsored by LaborArts, Metro New York Labor Communications Council, and the NYC Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO.
