Actors’ Equity Association Urges Increased Arts Funding for New York State
Actors’ Equity Association, the national labor union representing more than 51,000 professional actors and stage managers in live theatre, is part of the call to invest in New York State’s arts industries. Assembly Member Daniel J. O’Donnell and Senator José M. Serrano have called for New York’s FY24 budget to include $140 million for the New York State Council on the Arts and restore $50 million for capital funding for cultural projects. Learn more here!
In addition to the profound value of funding arts education, this investment is vital to New York’s financial wellbeing; pre-pandemic it generated 484,000 jobs and $120 billion in economic activity, and it is central to the state’s tourism industry. Assembly Member O’Donnell and Senator Serrano will host a rally in support of this budget on Tuesday, March 21 at noon, in Albany at the Senate Chamber gallery.
