RiseBoro Community Partnership LEAP Staff Attorneys Form Union with UAW 2325
Staff Attorneys at RiseBoro Community Partnership LEAP (Legal Empowerment and Assistance Program) have announced their intent to join the Association of Legal Aid Attorneys - UAW Local 2325, filing an election petition with the NLRB while calling on management to voluntarily recognize their union.
RiseBoro LEAP formed in 1998 as Bushwick Housing Legal Assistance Program to provide legal advocacy for Bushwick residents facing eviction. In 2014 the Program renamed itself LEAP to reflect its broader mandate to advocate on behalf of all indigent Brooklyn residents. An overwhelming majority of RiseBoro Leap Staff Attorneys signed cards indicating their support for unionization. They expressed their intent to work collaboratively with RiseBoro LEAP to address a variety of concerns, including managing caseload assignments more assiduously, effective delivery of client services, compensation and benefits, job security, transparency in hiring and evaluating employees, and diversity and anti-racism.
“Working at RiseBoro LEAP has been an amazing professional experience,” said Staff Attorney Andrew Spence. “We are unionizing because we want to see RiseBoro LEAP thrive. By bringing more diverse well mediated perspectives the union will greatly assist RiseBoro LEAP to better achieve its goals and potential.” Read more here!
