Protecting NYC Musicians
The musicians of Distinguished Concerts International New York are fighting for a fair contract with the help of AFM Local 802. The orchestra performed a live musical rally on Monday night, with the sounds of a brass band echoing over the sidewalks of Carnegie Hall. Looming in the background was the NYC labor movement's trademark icon: an inflatable rat that wore a sign “Shame on DCINY.” For its performance of “Carmina Burana” that night, the company had shamefully replaced the professional orchestra with an amateur high school ensemble. Audience members stopped by to learn about the musicians’ campaign, and the rally was covered by Labor Press. Click here to follow the musicians' fight on Twitter!
