2022 NYC CLC Labor and Civil Rights Panel: Building Prosperity, Addressing the Inequality Gap

Wednesday, June 1, 6PM: For marginalized communities, institutional barriers continue to exist as it relates to education, healthcare, housing and retirement. Union membership has been a tool for many families looking to break into the middle class. This is especially true for marginalized communities who in the past have had to fight for their active participation in the Labor Movement. As we reflect on how the Labor Movement made strides towards inclusion, it is equally important to note how the union difference has brought new opportunities for families around healthcare, housing, education, and retirement. This discussion will center around how union membership has contributed to narrowing the inequality gap and how it can continue to build solidarity in an effort to create prosperity that is felt by all workers.
