Two years after forming a union with NewsGuild of NY, the Sports Illustrated Union has agreed on a first contract that, once ratified, will protect their workplace and their journalism. Among other things the new contract includes a wage structure with fair minimum salaries for every position and a salary floor of $64,000, and guaranteed 3% yearly raises; just cause, with no exceptions; layoff procedures and severance policy; and a rule that at least 50% of applicants for union-covered jobs who make it to interviews with a hiring manager every year will come from traditionally underrepresented groups.
