IBEW Local 3 Supports HEART 9/11 Volunteer Emergency Aid Response Team
HEART 9/11 is an all-volunteer response team drawing from the skills and knowledge of the FDNY, NYPD, Port Authority Police Department, and the Building Trades of New York City to rebuild homes and complete other emergency services in the immediate aftermath of natural and man-made disasters. Founded in 2007 as a way to give back to the global community that responded to New York City’s needs after the September 11th terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, HEART 9/11 has deployed over a thousand volunteers throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, and other countries around the world.
As a proud partner of HEART 9/11, Local Union No. 3, IBEW recently invited its founder, PAPD Lt. William (Bill) Keegan, to speak on behalf of his organization at the union’s monthly general membership meeting. In honor of the victims of 9/11 – 17 of whom were members of Local 3, which has lost an additional 27 members to 9/11-related illnesses – Local 3’s membership voted to donate $25,000 to support HEART 9/11’s ongoing volunteer services. Donations go toward HEART 9/11’s Disaster Response Program, Responder 2 Responder (R2R) Assistance Program, and the Center for Strength + Resiliency.
