A Labor Day Message from NYC Central Labor Council President Vincent Alvarez
As we celebrate another well-deserved Labor Day weekend, I want to take the opportunity to extend our gratitude to all of you for your activism and solidarity throughout the year. Labor Day is a testament to the strength and unity of our Labor Movement, and it’s through all of our collective efforts that we continue to make strides toward a fairer and more just society.
After the opportunity to relax with family and friends this weekend, I hope that you’ll all join us for our annual Labor Day Parade & March next Saturday, September 7th. This year’s theme is “All Workers, Many Voices, One Fight,” underscoring the unity among NYC workers and union members from diverse backgrounds and highlighting our shared commitment to advocating for better conditions and fair treatment. We're honored to be led this year by Parade Grand Marshal John J. Murphy, International Representative, United Association, and Parade Chair Fallon Ager-Norman, International Vice President and Region 1 Director, UFCW. I encourage everyone to come out and show our strength in numbers!
Let’s remember as well that the fight for workers’ rights isn’t just happening through organizing campaigns or across bargaining tables—our political elections matter, now more than ever. The CLC is mobilizing now and through the election via our NYC Labor Votes program to make sure working peoples’ voices are heard, including by supporting Labor’s endorsed candidates Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. In addition to finding volunteer opportunities through your union, you can also sign up to participate in NYC Labor Votes activities like labor walks and door knocking here. And if you’re interested in other opportunities to volunteer with the NYC CLC, you can click here to sign up.
Thanks once again for everything you do each and every day. Your participation, whether through our electoral efforts, organizing campaigns, support for worker actions, or at events like the Labor Day Parade makes a profound difference in advancing workers' rights and improving conditions for all. From everyone at the NYC CLC, we wish you and your families a happy and healthy Labor Day weekend!
In Solidarity,
Vincent Alvarez
