Carbon Free and Healthy Schools Campaign Holds Lobby Day for NYC Public Solar Power Legislation
On April 11th the Carbon Free and Healthy Schools Campaign held a lobby day before New York City Council Members. The coalition of unions—including 32BJ, DC37, NYSNA, UFT, CSA, NYC Building and Construction Trades, and Local 3 IBEW—joined together to advocate for the NYC Public Solar Power bill, Int. No. 353. In aligning the diverse voices and perspectives of union members and leaders, the lobby day was successful in gaining the bill enough sponsors to surpass a veto-proof majority in the City Council. Through the hard work of the coalition and dedicated advocacy by members, the NYC Public Solar Power bill now has 42 co-sponsors. We will continue to work to see the bill across the finish line and ensure that the city is taking advantage of this chance to ensure we create good jobs while fighting climate change.
