Help REI Union SoHo Boost Their REI Union Hardship Fund!
The workers at REI’s very first unionized store need your support! Last summer, as a result of workers organizing the flagship store, REI introduced “The Way Forward,” a new package of pay and benefits that REI extended to workers at every store across the country except for the SoHo, New York store. Workers won the improved wages and benefits under “The Way Forward” package after engaging in a walk-out in November. On June 1, REI reverted many workers' pay to pre “The Way Forward” levels. Workers think this is a clear act of retaliation against their organizing efforts, and RWDSU therefore filed an unfair labor practice with Region 2 of the NLRB that is currently pending.
The pay cuts were extremely severe—up to 20%—with a disproportionate effect on more tenured coworkers. Workers are already living paycheck to paycheck, struggling to afford housing, food, healthcare, and basic needs. This drastic reduction in pay pushed many workers to the brink of extreme hardship. As such, the workers are fundraising with the aim to fill the wage cut gap for the next three months.
