Local 802 Musicians Including Striking DCINY Orchestra Members Support Writers
This week, the Local 802 musicians of "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" marched and played on the writers' picket line. At the same time, the striking Local 802 musicians of the DCINY Orchestra made a public statement of support: "Your Struggle is Our Struggle!" Local 802 is emphasizing that writers are fighting the same battle that musicians are fighting: the right to make sure that the creative arts remains a sustainable profession.
All creative artists are facing disruptions caused by technology and corporate greed. Streaming and A.I. are just two examples. Right now it's the writers' turn to face off against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). The musicians' turn at the bargaining table is in the fall. The power of the labor movement has always been solidarity. If all creative workers stick together, we have the best shot at achieving our collective goal: a stable career that adds beauty and culture to the world.
