NYSARA Leaders Participate in Virtual Biennial National ARA Membership Meeting
A strong contingent of New York State Alliance of Retired Americans leaders participated in the ARA virtual National Membership meeting July 27-28. The program included addresses by AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler and Secretary-Treasurer Fred Raymond, along with U.S. Rep. John Larson ( D-CT) sponsor of the Social Security 2100 legislation and pollster Celinda Lake who provided an analysis of the public policy priorities of older Americans.
Hands-on workshops offered valuable insights and techniques for effective engagement online and get-out-the-vote efforts. A panel discussion providing intergenerational perspective on worker organizing was also instructive. In her remarks, President Shuler offered perspective on the transformation underway in the Labor Movement necessitated by new circumstances in our country and world that present unprecedented challenges. She emphasized the significance of Labor rising to the moment.
NYSARA President Barry Kaufmann chaired the Resolutions Committee and presided over the acceptance of 15 resolutions to set the Alliance agenda and priorities. NYSARA's Barbara Waldmann and Donald Singer were also in attendance. Click here to learn more about NYSARA and sign up for the weekly newsletter!
