Take Action: Guttmacher Institute Fires Union Organizer One Hour After Successful NLRB Vote
On Wednesday, less than an hour after Guttmacher Employees United won their union with OPEIU Local 153 by an overwhelming margin of 61-2, the Guttmacher Institute fired Sam Heyne, a leading organizing committee member at the NYC-based nonprofit research and policy organization committed to advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights in the United States and globally. Sam was pulled into an impromptu meeting by human resource director Lisa Blain, as well as Guttmacher’s Vice President for Finance & Administration, Maureen Burnley, denied her Weingarten rights, and fired on the spot.
