Approval of Labor Unions at Highest Point Since 1965
According to a new Gallup poll released this week, 68% percent of Americans approve of labor unions. Statistically similar to last year's 65%, and consistent with a trend of steady increase among nearly all major demographic subgroups since 2016, the current reading is the highest Gallup has measured since 71% in 1965.
"It comes as no surprise that public support for unions continues to rise across the country. Union members have delivered for our communities throughout the country, as workers have finally been recognized as essential to our economy and society during the coronavirus pandemic," said AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler. "This polling data should send a clear message to Congress that union jobs are vital as we re-emerge from this pandemic with a stronger economy that is built upon the principles of fairness and equality."
