In Memoriam: Mark Plesent (1960-2021), Co-Director of the Working Theatre
The labor and arts communities of New York mourn the loss of Mark Plesent, co-artistic director of the Working Theater. Since 1985, the Working Theater has produced plays and hosted industructional programs as a professional off-Broadway theater company for, about, and by the working men and women of New York. With performance series such as “Five Boroughs/One City” and “TheaterWorks!” the Working Theater has collaborated closely with New York’s working-class communities and union members from Local 3 IBEW, District Council 37, Transport Workers Union Local 100, Social Services Employees Local 371, 32BJ SEIU, CWA Local 1180, and more. The Mark Plesent Commission Fund was established in his memory to support the annual commission of new plays by working people and continue the Working Theater’s mission.
