Construction Workers Rally to Demand Action on Workplace Safety
On Wednesday, workers and leadership from several building trades unions, and their allies in the broader New York City Labor Movement, rallied outside of City Hall to demand action on workplace safety in the construction industry.
31 attendees were arrested for civil disobedience while blocking traffic on Park Row. Memorializing and calling attention to the 30 workers who have died on construction sites over the past two years, attendees chanted “how many more must die?”
A package of bills was introduced in the City Council the same day in efforts to address this alarming trend.
