Columbia TAs and RAs Rally for Union Recognition
Members of Graduate Workers of Columbia-UAW (GWC-UAW) rallied at the Low Memorial Library to call for Columbia University to recognize the UAW as the union for the school’s research assistants (RAs) and teaching assistants (TAs).
The workers were joined by supporters from labor, community, and government, many of whom signed on to a letter urging the university to do right by its workers.
The date was chosen to highlight the fact that it has been one year since the majority of the university's RAs and TAs voted to be represented by the UAW. Over the last year, workers have continued to sign cards, despite the university's attempts at union busting.
