AFL-CIO, Labor Activists join Bangladeshi Garment Workers to Call on Ralph Lauren to sign the Accord on Fire & Building Safety
Today, labor activists joined with Bangladeshi garment workers outside of the Ralph Lauren shareholders meeting at the St. Regis Hotel. Supporters leafleted the public about the need for a greater concern for human rights and worker safety on the part of Ralph Lauren and for the company to join the Accord on Fire & Building Safety.
Following remarks by supporters, AFL-CIO representatives and Nazma Akter, President of the Sommilito Garments Sramik Federation and attended the shareholders' meeting and sponsored a resolution calling on Ralph Lauren to conduct a human rights risk assessment. The resolution was then seconded by New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer.
