DESPITE ILLEGAL PUSH FOR CLOSURE, 1199 AND NYSNA CONTINUE TO FIGHT TO SAVE LICH
This week, 1199 and NYSNA continued to oppose the SUNY-ordered of closure of Brooklyn’s Long Island College Hospital. On Thursday, SUNY ordered all patients relocated to other facilities by Sunday. This is just the latest development in a months-long battle between SUNY and the 1199 and NYSNA members employed at Long Island College Hospital. The unions filed a lawsuit against SUNY, highlighting that the facility is absolutely necessary to the residents of the surrounding Cobble Hill neighborhood. SUNY has ignored court mandates that LICH remain open for care and 1199 and NYSNA have continually shown their opposition through lawsuits and community rallies.
