Pueblo for Puerto Rico: A Teach-in on Puerto Rico’s Economic and Political Present and Future
Sat, May 14, 2016 at 09:30 AM to at 04:00 PM
As Puerto Rico’s $72B public debt has decimated the island’s schools, health care, and other public services, millions of Puerto Ricans are suffering the consequences of severe cuts. Each month last year, 11,000 Puerto Ricans migrated to the US mainland. Meanwhile, investors who have profited off of Puerto Rico’s debt are pushing Congress to adopt solutions that prioritize their own profits over families’ basic needs and the economic future of Puerto Rico.
To begin building a strong movement to support the people of Puerto Rico on the island and in the mainland, we invite you to a one-day event to become more informed, share strategies and plan actions. Topics for discussion include: WORKERS and the ECONOMIC CRISIS, POLITICAL POWER and NEW MIGRATION, PUBLIC EDUCATION and student movements, VETERANS’ ISSUES and threats to the HEALTH CARE system.
