NYCOSH 2015 Safety & Health Series: Preventing Workplace Assault and Violence
Wed, Jun 24, 2015 at 10:00 AM to at 02:00 PM
Workplace violence accounts for approximately 10% of all job-related fatalities in this country. Several steps are being taken to help control and minimize the risk:
NYS enacted the workplace violence prevention law to protect most public sector workers
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has issued citations under the general duty clause
OSHA has developed guidance documents for several industries
Local and state legislative proposals
Unions are advocating for a national standard
This forum will examine those measures that have been taken and discuss what we need to do.
Panelists:
Steve Schrag, Health and Safety Program Coordinator,
Service Employees International Union
Shawn Bobb, Occupational Safety and Health Specialist,
NYS Public Employees Federation
Eno Awotoye, Career Development Coordinator,
Retail Action Project
Sponsored by the New York City Central Labor Council (NYC CLC)
and the New York Committee for Occupational Safety and Health (NYCOSH).
