Free Legal Screening on DACA & DAPA

There is currently a great deal of confusion in immigrant communities about President Obama's executive action which is temporarily on hold, but is ultimately expected to be upheld. That's why providing reliable information and combatting immigration fraud is more important than ever.

The Mayor’s Office Immigrant Affairs will host an event to provide free legal screening for anyone who may be eligible for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) or Deferred Action for Parental Accountability (DAPA). As many of you know, these new programs (also called “executive action”) will help some immigrants who do not have a green card or a visa by letting them stay in the United States without fear of deportation and work legally for 3 years.

The Mayor’s  office can also attend any events to help spread the word and register individuals in person.

Attendees will be given clear information about the status of executive action and be individually screened to learn if they may qualify for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), Deferred Action for Parental Accountability (DAPA) or another type of immigration relief. City agencies will also be available to provide information on how to obtain documents in preparation for their application once the programs become available.

Individuals who wish to register for the April 12 event should call Catholic Charities at (212) 419-3700 to make an appointment. The hotline is open Monday – Friday, 9am to 8pm and over the phone interpretation is available in over 200 languages.
