The NYC Labor Movement Stands Behind IATSE Local One During Carnegie Hall Strike

Carnegie Hall Corporation’s Claim of IATSE’s Request for Firings Unfounded

New York, NY – New York City Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO President Vincent Alvarez released the following statement regarding International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Hands (IATSE) to strike at Carnegie Hall, and the assertion that IATSE is calling for worker firings

“It is unfortunate that after 13 months of bargaining, the Carnegie Hall Corporation has tied the hands of members of IATSE Local One, making this strike necessary.  The Corporation’s decision to employ non-union labor to make roughly $230 million worth of renovations is a slap in the face to the hardworking men and women employed throughout the organization.

“And now, the Carnegie Hall Corporation is accusing Local One of calling for workers to be fired.  Dishonest, underhanded tactics like this, which attempt to divide working people, will not be tolerated. The NYC Labor Movement stands behind Local One, as it fights to help maintain good union jobs for working men and women.
