ACT-UAW (UAW Local 7902) represents over 4,000 part-time and adjunct teachers. It consists of two units: one for teachers at NYU, and another for those at The New School. It was founded in 2002 after several years of organizing efforts, and elected its first Executive Officers in 2005.

IATSE Local 161

Local 161 of the Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees is a union whose role is to obtain the best possible conditions for its members through collective bargaining. These conditions include not only wage issues but pension and welfare benefits as well. The union also will police the resulting contracts to make sure the employer adheres to them.

LIUNA Local 78

LIUNA Local 78 represents asbestos, lead and hazardous waste handlers in New York City, Long Island and New Jersey. The Local’s 4,000 members are the hard-working employees for nearly 200 signatory environmental contractors, performing 90% of all asbestos removal in the area.

LIUNA Local 78 was organized in 1996 by the Laborers International Union of North America (LIUNA). On its first day, the Local had 1,500 members. Since then, due to aggressive organizing and an active membership, the Local has grown steadily. Local 78 was granted jurisdiction over asbestos and lead abatement in Long Island in 2002 and throughout the state of New Jersey in 2008.
