Heat Pumps for All Initiative Secures $2 Million in NYC Budget

A coalition of unions, environmentalists, and community groups came together to successfully secure a $2M investment in energy-saving heat pumps for single- and two-family homes in the NYC budget agreed on this week. The program will provide resources for families to have union members from Steamfitters Local 638 conduct the work through a pilot with HPD.
The NYC CLC collaborated on the Heat Pumps for All initiative with Local 638, NY Communities for Change, Food & Water Watch, Climate Jobs NY, and NYPIRG. Other affiliates who offered their institutional support included the Hotel & Gaming Trades Council as well as CSEA. The CLC looks forward to implementation and working to both secure work for union members and cut the cost of living for working class homeowners in the five boroughs, many of whom are union members.
