Actions taken during the first few days of the Trump administration have understandably sparked outrage and deep concern across the Labor Movement and among working families nationwide. The reinstatement of Schedule Fwould undermine the federal workforce, stripping hundreds of thousands of employees of due process rights to potentially replace them with political loyalists. Executive orders targeting sanctuary cities, restricting birthright citizenship, and halting refugee admissions represent an unprecedented attack on immigrant workers and their familiesthat would undermine our economy and our country. Meanwhile, the administration’s hostility toward the transition to clean energy, such as offshore wind, threatens to stall the development of sustainable, unionized industries that are critical for job growth.

While these actions and others are deeply troubling, they are not yet inevitable. Many are likely to face significant legal and political challenges, including widespread public opposition and court battles. As we continue to evaluate this rapidly changing landscape, the NYC Labor Movement and our partners at the AFL-CIO remain steadfast in our commitment to defending workers’ rights, building solidarity across communities, and mobilizing to protect the progress we’ve fought so hard to achieve.
