Noguchi Museum Staff Petition for a Union Election
Staff at The Noguchi Museum in Long Island City have petitioned the National Labor Relations Board for a vote on unionization with Local 2110 UAW. The wall-to-wall unit that Local 2110 has petitioned for includes educators, gallery attendants, curatorial staff, archivists, retail, warehouse, facilities and other administrative staff. The Museum is the latest in a growing movement of museum workers to organize. Staff members cite a need for greater transparency and better conditions as reasons for unionizing.
"We all care about the Noguchi Museum, and I want the working conditions to be sustainable so that staff can continue doing the jobs that we love,” Austin Kim, Archives Associate says. “We are dedicated to advancing the work and legacy of Isamu Noguchi, and we are proud of our collective contribution to the museum’s growth. Unionizing is an important next step for the longevity of the institution.” Follow the Noguchi Union on Instagram for updates!
