MFJ Workers on Strike Rally With Elected Officials, Supporters at City Hall
Unionized employees of Mobilization for Justice, Inc. (MFJ) have now been on strike for a month in their fight for a fair contract and against MFJ's unfair labor practices. MFJ Union members are part of the Legal Services Staff Association (LSSA) 2320, which represents support staff, paralegals, attorneys, and other non-management employees.
After three weeks of regular pickets and virtual actions, along with the support of elected officials, sibling unions, clients, and other supporters, MFJ management contacted the Union’s Bargaining Team last week to reconvene at the bargaining table and restart negotiations. This week, the Union held a rally and press conference on the steps of City Hall to recognize the importance of its clients, communities, and other supporters. The event featured City Council Civil Service and Labor Committee Chair Carmen De La Rosa, members of the Council's Progressive Caucus, and supporters including the NYC CLC and MFJ clients who came out to stand with the advocates who have fought for them.
“The Bargaining Team extends our heartfelt gratitude to our Union for their courageous sacrifice and decisive actions during this challenging time, which have played a pivotal role in compelling Management to break their silence and return to the negotiating table. We are also immensely grateful to the UAW, LSSA, and all our allies across the city whose unwavering support has been truly invaluable,” remarked Jaynor Diaz, a Bargaining Team member and Staff Attorney in MFJ’s Housing Project. “We are hopeful that Management is ready to bargain in good faith and work towards a fair contract that will settle this strike, take care of our members, and lets us get back to doing the work we so deeply want to do for our clients and the communities we serve.” Read more in THE CITY, follow the MFJ Union here for updates, and support striking workers at these upcoming pickets:
