AFM Local 802 Highlights "Slow but Steady Opening"
The slow but steady opening of NYC is the cover story of this month's Allegro magazine, and audiences have a lot to look forward to this year as more and more New Yorkers get vaccinated. Local 802 cheered the recent announcement by Governor Cuomo that New York is lifting capacity controls as well as the announcement by the Broadway League that ticket sales will resume this month for Fall 2021 performances. Broadway is the heart and soul of NYC and its revival this fall will be a true sign of our industry’s recovery. We’re looking forward to a bright future filled with the best live musical theatre that makes NYC the arts capital of the world.
The rebirth of Broadway is also an opportunity to take a hard look at our industry as we continue to fight bullying and intimidation and commit to respect, safety, diversity, equity and inclusion for all artistic workers. Local 802 is also proud to announce that it achieved a one-year extension of its collective bargaining agreement with New York City Opera, which paves the way for meaningful employment for its orchestra musicians. Finally, join us to collectively raise our voice at noon on Thursday, May 13 on the sidewalk in front of Lincoln Center plaza for a LIVE RALLY to support a fair contract for Met musicians and ALL Met artists. Enter from the 64th Street side of Broadway. Wear a mask and bring your union solidarity!
