Workers’ Rights Convening! Workers Fight Back: The Federal Assault on Workers and The Movement to Resist and Organize

Thursday, March 13, 9AM-1PM: Co-hosted by New York City Comptroller Brad Lander, the New York City Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO and the CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies, this convening will facilitate dialogue among experts in the labor movement, workers’ rights advocates, immigrant rights organizations, and policymakers. Together, we’ll explore the current state of workers’ rights in New York City and how our movements can take action to defend workers and build solidarity through legislation, direct action, organizing and litigation.
Former General Counsel to the NLRB Jennifer Abruzzo will be joining us to kick off this convening. The convening will also include two engaging panels: The first will examine the current state of immigrant worker organizing in the city. Panelists will discuss trends they are seeing related to the deportation of undocumented workers, how employers are responding to increased federal immigration enforcement efforts, and report back on other trends in workplace exploitation emerging out of this new political environment. The second panel will focus on the current state of New York City’s union workforce, and the impact that DOGE and attacks on the NLRB are having on organizing and collective bargaining.
Join us on Thursday, March 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies (CUNY SLU), 25 West 43rd Street on the 18th floor in Manhattan. A light breakfast will be served. Space is limited, please RSVP hereto reserve your spot.
