NEW YORK, April 11, 2025 — The New York City Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO (NYC CLC), representing 300 unions and more than one million registered voters in union households across New York City, today announced its first round of endorsements for the 2025 New York City Council, Borough President, and Citywide primary elections. This first slate includes nineteen candidates who have demonstrated a commitment to fighting for working people and ensuring New York City remains a place where all workers can thrive.

As always, the NYC CLC’s member-to-member political program, NYC LaborVotes!, will focus on educating and mobilizing union members and their families to make their voices heard at the ballot box. In a time of growing economic uncertainty and political challenges for working people, Labor’s role in electing strong pro-worker candidates is more important than ever.

“The Labor Movement has always been a powerful force in shaping the future of our city, and we’re proud to endorse candidates who share a vision that benefits all of New York’s working families,” said NYC CLC President Vincent Alvarez. “Working people are facing unprecedented challenges, from the ongoing affordability crisis to attacks on fundamental workplace protections. That’s why we need leaders who will stand with us, fighting for fair wages and benefits, strong labor standards, and the right to join a union. These candidates have already proven they are up to the task, and we look forward to working alongside them to build a stronger future for all New Yorkers.”

Candidates seeking the NYC CLC’s endorsement participate in a rigorous process, which includes a training session on the New York City labor movement and the key issues affecting working people. They then interview with a panel of affiliate representatives and submit a detailed questionnaire before being considered for endorsement.
