Thousands of UAW Legal Services Workers Take a Stand with Rolling Strike Deadlines Across NYC

More than 2,000 workers at 9 legal services providers across each of NYC's five boroughs represented by the Association of Legal Advocates and Attorneys (ALAA - UAW Local 2325) have authorized a strike. Echoing the UAW's 2023 Stand Up Strike strategy, ALAA members have announced rolling strike deadlines across multiple workplaces. Unionized workers at Goddard Riverside Law Project began striking on July 9, and more could soon join them: workers at NYLAG and the Urban Justice Center set a strike deadline for July 15, and July 18 marks the strike deadline for unions at the Bronx Defenders, the Office of the Appellate Defender, and Appellate Advocates. These escalations follow successful strike authorization votes at two ALAA Chapters at the Legal Aid Society, CAMBA Legal Services, and the Center for Appellate Litigation.
Actions are being planned and they'll need our support, so make sure to follow updates online via Instagram and the Union's website! A community hardship fund hosted by the Association of Legislative Employees is also available here.
