The Administration plans to reduce Social Security field office visits by 50 percent in 2026, despite previous commitments to remain open and available.

This week, the media reported that the Administration plans to cut in-person visits to Social Security field offices in half during the 2026 fiscal year. This news is a reversal of now-Commissioner Frank Bisignano's commitment to the Senate that his goal was not to reduce in-person services.

Congress needs to step in and demand that offices stay open. Congressman John Larson (CT) has introduced the Keeping Our Field Offices Open Act (H.R. 1876) to ensure all Americans can visit a Social Security field office in person if they need to. The Administration has systematically dismantled the Social Security Administration since day one, cutting 7,000 employees, making it harder for seniors to get their benefits, and replacing workers with ineffective AI chatbots that are difficult to use. Even after SSA Commissioner Frank Bisignano said he was committed to NOT reducing in person services, the agency further reduced staffing levels in July by deciding to shift field office employees to answering the 1-800 number.

Now they seem to be ready to deliver a crushing blow. We must stop them. Please take the first step. Click here to send a message now and the ARA will keep you updated as we work to save Social Security Field Offices.
