On Tuesday, union members, elected officials, and allies gathered on the steps of Brooklyn Borough Hall Plaza in frigid temperatures to stand in solidarity with fired striking CAMBA IT workers, who have now been on strike for more than eleven weeks. The rally was emceed by New York City Council Member Chi Ossé and featured remarks from two of the fired workers, as well as ALAA UAW Local 2325 President Lisa Ohta and UAW Region 9A Director Brandon Mancilla.

The fired workers spoke movingly about the pride they took in their work supporting New Yorkers and in their union, and about the frustration they feel seeing CAMBA move away from the values that once defined the organization. Speakers condemned CAMBA’s decision to outsource its entire IT department while workers were on strike, calling it a clear act of retaliation and union-busting. Speakers also called attention to the fact that CAMBA is a large nonprofit agency that receives taxpayer money to deliver essential services across New York City, making its treatment of unionized employees particularly outrageous.
