After a two-day Unfair Labor Practice strike, nearly 1,000 members of Contract Faculty United–UAW at New York University reached a tentative agreement with the administration early Wednesday morning. The strike came after more than a year of bargaining and overwhelming strike authorization, with faculty fighting for fair compensation, job security, academic freedom, and a real voice in university governance. Members have suspended the strike as they prepare to vote on whether to ratify the tentative agreement.

The tentative five-year agreement delivers significant gains, including major salary increases, annual raises, and strengthened job protections. 95% of members will earn more than $100,000, with minimum salaries rising to $91,000 and every member receiving at least a $14,000 raise in the coming year. The deal also includes improvements around benefits, academic freedom, and working conditions, marking a major first contract victory for the unit.

“The power of the strike was really clear,” CFU representative Jacob Remes told Washington Square News. “It was the steadfastness and courage of the members who left their classrooms and offices — and the students and politicians who joined us, but mostly the members, who won this contract.” Read more in Washington Square News and THE CITY.
