Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) Commissioner Sam Levine and Hotel and Gaming Trades Council (HTC) President Rich Maroko wrote an op-ed in The Nation, reminding hotel operators of the City laws that guarantee critical protections for hotel workers and consumers. DCWP also issued compliance warnings to more than 760 licensed hotels citywide.

The NYC Hotel Licensing Law, also known as the “Safe Hotels Act,” requires hotels to obtain a license to operate in NYC, sets safety and cleanliness standards, and establishes baseline protections for workers. Hotel workers and consumers can report a hotel for uncleanliness, not providing panic buttons to employees, not directly employing front desk staff, and more.

As NYC gears up for a busy tourist season, DCWP will continue to enforce safety and transparency in the hospitality sector for workers and consumers. Learn more about your rights as consumers and workers at nyc.gov/dcwp.
