NYC CLC Co-Hosts Workers Rights Convening with NYC Comptroller & CUNY SLU

On Thursday, the NYC CLC was pleased to co-host a Workers' Rights Convening with NYC Comptroller Brad Lander and the CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies.
With a keynote address by former NLRB General Counsel Jennifer Abruzzo and remarks by Comptroller Lander, NYC CLC Secretary-Treasurer Janella T. Hinds, and CUNY SLU Dean Dr. Gregory Mantsios, the 2025 Workers’ Rights Convening facilitated dialogue among experts in the labor movement, workers’ rights advocates, immigrant rights organizations, and policymakers. Participants discussed the current state of workers’ rights in New York City and how our movements can take action to defend workers and build solidarity through legislation, direct action, organizing and litigation.
The convening also included two engaging panels: The first examined the current state of immigrant worker organizing in the city. Panelists discussed trends they are seeing related to the deportation of undocumented workers, how employers are responding to increased federal immigration enforcement efforts, and reported back on other trends in workplace exploitation emerging out of this new political environment. The second panel focused on the current state of New York City’s union workforce, and the impact that DOGE and attacks on the NLRB are having on organizing and collective bargaining. Thank you to everyone who joined us!
