On April 1, the New York City Central Labor Council co-hosted The 2030 Census Challenge in New York City in partnership with New York Law School, Councilmember Julie Menin and a coalition of census experts, labor leaders, and community advocates. With opening remarks from NYC CLC President Vincent Alvarez and a recorded message from House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, the convening brought renewed urgency to the city’s preparation efforts for the next decennial count.

Panels throughout the morning featured speakers from CUNY, NYC Planning, NALEO, the NAACP, the New York Immigration Coalition and more, all reflecting on key lessons from 2020 and the unique role organized labor played in reaching hard-to-count communities.
