New York City Agencies Come Together to Share Resources With Immigrant Workers

Deputy Mayor for Economic Justice Julie Su and NYC agency commissioners from the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP), the Mayor’s Office on Immigrant Affairs (MOIA), the Taxi and Limousine Commission, and the Department of Small Business Services (SBS) hosted an ethnic media roundtable and Q&A session to inform immigrant New Yorkers of their rights. City officials spoke with media outlets serving various immigrant communities and shared critical materials, including Know Your Rights, Workers’ Bill of Rights, and Consumer Bill of Rights Regarding Immigration Assistance Service Providers.
DCWP Commissioner Sam Levine also addressed Western Union’s proposed acquisition of fellow money remittance corporation Intermex. The Mamdani Administration expressed serious concerns that the merger – which threatens to impose taxes on cash remittance transactions – will hurt working families and immigrant communities.
