At the latest General Membership meeting of Local 3, IBEW on July 10th, union members who have recently volunteered for Electrical Workers Without Borders North America (EWWBNA) in the Navajo Nation were honored with a special presentation. They were joined by representatives from EWWBNA, the Navajo Tribal Utility Authority (NTUA), and Thorogood, a made-in-the-USA work boot manufacturer.

EWWBNA, which was founded by former International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) President Edwin D. Hill, has partnered with the NTUA on the “Light Up Navajo” program to expand electrification and connection to the utility across the Navajo Nation, a service area larger than the state of West Virginia and home to one of the largest but poorest native tribes within the United States. Over 10,000 Navajo families live without electricity in their homes, and it would cost up to $1 billion over 50 years for the NTUA to do it on their own, if not for IBEW members stepping up to the challenge.
