Letter Carriers Rally to Save the Postal Service

On Sunday, letter carriers and supporters across the country took to the streets with a clear message: HELL NO to dismantling the U.S. Postal Service. Organized by the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC), rallies were held nationwide to oppose efforts to privatize or restructure USPS, which threatens the jobs of 640,000 postal employees and the universal service millions rely on.
Here in New York City, NALC Branch 36 hosted a Rally to Save USPS at the FDR Station Post Office on 3rd Avenue between East 53rd and East 54th Street, with participants gathering to highlight the vital role of postal workers in keeping communities connected. Privatization of the Post Office, one of the country’s most trusted public institutions, would lead to job losses, reduced service to rural communities, and higher costs for consumers and businesses. The Postal Service, enshrined in the Constitution and essential to everyday life, must remain a public institution serving all Americans.
With letter carriers delivering 376 million pieces of mail and packages daily, the stakes couldn’t be higher. Watch video from NALC Branch 36's rally here and check out more photos on their Facebook page!
