Approximately 1,800 of the 2,000 legal services workers represented by the Association of Legal Advocates and Attorneys—UAW Local 2325 (ALAA)—have reached tentative agreements this week following powerful strike actions and sustained public pressure. These agreements cover attorneys and support staff at organizations including the Legal Aid Society, NYLAG, Bronx Defenders, Appellate Advocates and the Center for Appellate Litigation.

But the fight is not over! Workers at CAMBA, the Office of the Appellate Defender (OAD), the Urban Justice Center, and Goddard Riverside Law Project remain on strike, demanding the funding, staffing, and support they need to continue delivering justice for low-income New Yorkers.

Underfunded for decades, these workers are taking a stand for fair wages, adequate resources, and protections against burnout and high turnover; all issues that directly impact the quality of representation their clients receive.
