Legal Services NYC Union Holds Mass Rally at 40 Worth Street

The unionized staff of Legal Services NYC (LSNYC) walked out of their respective borough offices Monday at 3pm, converging at 40 Worth Street for a mass rally as negotiations between LSNYC and the staff’s union, Legal Services Staff Association 2320 (LSSA 2320/UAW Local 2320), entered their last week before a potential strike vote. The union represents over 500 legal services workers across every borough in Housing Court and Immigration Court.
“I’m walking out because I don’t want to strike, but management doesn’t seem to understand that,” said Alison Roberts, Staff Attorney from the Bronx Legal Services office. “Their ridiculous offers, which fall well below both inflation and the raises they’ve given themselves, are insulting. My work suffers when I’m constantly worrying about how my bills are going to get paid. So I’ll strike for myself and my clients if I have to, but I’m hoping the walkout will wake management up.”
Staff members wore red in support of LSSA’s bargaining efforts as the union called on management to fulfill its duty to bargain in good faith and provide the fair wages and equitable work conditions that their workers deserve. Follow these workers and their fight on social media!
