Labor Solidarity with WNBA Players in NYC

This week, Laborers Local Union 1010, LIUNA, took action in solidarity with the Women’s National Basketball Players Association (WNBPA) by rolling a custom LED billboard outside the WNBPA League Office and NBA Store in Manhattan, calling on league leadership to reach a fair deal that values players and secures the future of the WNBA. Framed as a “Dear Santa” message, the billboard urged WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert and NBA Commissioner Adam Silver to pay the players and protect the 2026 season as collective bargaining negotiations continue.
The action, coordinated with support from the CLC, drew national attention and underscored that the fight for pay equity crosses industries and professions, and that collective power is how workers win respect, equity, and fair compensation. Read more about the action in Sports Business Journal!
The WNBPA also announced Thursday that its members have voted overwhelmingly to authorize calling a strike "when necessary." Read more in ESPN and The New York Times.
