Labor Joins March on Wall Street

Union members turned out in large numbers this week for the March on Wall Street, joining the National Action Network, AFSCME President Lee Saunders, Reverend Al Sharpton, and other activists to demand economic and labor justice. Taking place on the anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech, the march underscored the continuing link between civil rights and workers’ rights. Participants including members of AFSCME District Council 37, the Hotel & Gaming Trades Council, AFGE, and other unions called for protecting public services, safeguarding retirement and medical benefits, and defending the right to organize, while making it clear that democracy cannot survive without Labor.
