Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) Commissioner Sam Levine wrote an op-ed in Jacobin about the rise of corporate surveillance, and how DCWP is helping workers and consumers fight back against technocratic elites. With the advent of surveillance prices and wages, a system where paychecks are set to the lowest a worker is willing to accept, and prices to the highest a consumer is willing to pay, corporations are manipulating our vulnerabilities to convert them into profit.

DCWP is doing its part to advocate for and enforce policy that empowers people over algorithms. So far this year, the Agency has recovered millions of dollars for delivery, fast-food, and retail workers with actions against companies that abuse algorithms to deny workers their right to cancel trips and choose their own schedule.
