CWA Local 1180 Member Searches for Kidney Donor to Save Her Son

Margaret Manolis, a CWA Local 1180 Administrative Coordinator at the New York City School Construction Authority, has spent the last 13 years fighting for her son’s life. Diagnosed in utero with a rare kidney condition, Elias has endured 13 surgeries in 13 years — and now, at just 13 years old, he urgently needs a living kidney donor to avoid dialysis and secure a healthier future. While he’s been placed on the deceased donor list, doctors say a living donor would give him a much better chance at leading a longer, healthier life.
Despite all the Manolis family’s attempts to find that donor, as they themselves do not qualify, they are now turning to the labor movement for help. “All we need is one person,” Margaret said. To read more and to inquire about the donation process, click here.
