Carpenters Rally for Area Standard Wages at Vanderbilt Project

Members of the NYC District Council of Carpenters rallied this week at a Vanderbilt University construction site in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood, calling on the developer to pay area standard wages. The action targeted the use of general contractor Gotham Drywall, which is providing substandard pay and benefits on the project and driving down industry standards.
The rally drew support from Manhattan Borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal, Assemblymember Alex Bores, and Council Member Erik Bottcher, alongside union members and Labor allies including the CLC. Carpenters made clear they are not going anywhere and will continue the campaign until the project meets area standards, with real stakes for maintaining strong wages and standards across New York City’s construction industry.
